How to Identify Corsair RM850x Cables
The RM850x uses Corsair Type 4 cables. Look very closely at the plastic plastic plugs (usually on the side of the connector that plugs into the power supply itself) for these small, stamped text markings:
- "TYPE 4": This is the ultimate giveaway. Most authentic Corsair cables will have "Type 4" stamped directly into the plastic housing.
- "CORSAIR": Some generations explicitly spell out the brand name.
- "24PIN" / "CPU" / "PCIe": These function labels are usually printed alongside the "Type 4" text.
How to Weed Out Other Common Brands
While sorting, keep an eye out for these markings, which belong to other power supply brands and must stay out of your RM850x:
- "GQ" / "G2" / "G3" / "P2" / "T2": These belong to various EVGA power supply lines.
- "G1" / "NEX": Older EVGA units (made by a different manufacturer, completely incompatible).
- "Seasonic" / "Focus" / "Prime": Belong to Seasonic power supplies.
- "be quiet!": Usually has a distinct ribbed plastic or specific textured sleeve look, or explicitly states the brand.
A Safe Sorting Strategy
- Grab a flashlight: The stamped letters on the black plastic plugs can be incredibly tiny and hard to see in dim light.
- Make a "Corsair Only" pile: Only put cables in this pile if they say "Type 4" or match the part number style of your SATA cable (
34-0series). - Bag and tag the rest: Once you identify the EVGA "GQ" cables, put them in a separate Ziploc bag labeled "EVGA GQ Only" so they don't get mixed up again.
