Power Outage Brief Solutions
The electricity went off? Stay calm! Make sure that the backup units are keeping computers in On mode for all the departments. They should all be plugged to the Battery + Surge switches. This will allow the devices use the battery when the power is off. As soon as the service is restored, verify that there is internet service. Start with the Wi-Fi option. If no device is receiving internet, regardless wired or wireless, contact the ISP (for example, Spectrum). This way, you will confirm that they are not experiencing an overall downtime because of the outage.
If there is internet through Wi-Fi, but desktop devices are not receiving internet through the servers, please take the following steps before you contact the servers provider TechWorx:
- Try to connect to the server by unplugging the power cord from the SonicWall box and plugging it back. Out of all the lights, there should be three green blinking lights, one blue and one steady green. If you see a yellow light, that confirms that internet is still unreachable through the servers.
- Confirm you are able to ping the public IP
- Access the SonicWall from the nsm portal (https://nsm-uswest.sonicwall.com/login/#/)
- Connect to the network VIA a vpn connection to access VMware
- In the VMWare, access the DC and confirm that it is up and running
- Try pinging outside the network (for example, ping google)
- Restart the DNS and DHCP services
- Once in run a tracert to google
If after ten minutes of completing the previous steps, internet is not received through the servers, contact TechWorx Help Desk (phone number (814)806-3228, option 1. Keep Management informed of the situation.
Internet is restored. Now, make sure all RTS are back and on. Each RTS has a box. Make sure the boxes are on, which probably will not after the outage. Gary has an RTS with three screens. Turn on the boxes and a light switch located by the door. Finally, confirm that you are able to remote the RTS with VNC.
The power is back, but not everybody will be happy. Check if printers are running properly. Make sure that the plant does not have issues with any machine whatsoever.
